HTC has officially unveiled its newest smartphone, the Butterfly 2, which the company claims is a flagship device for Asian markets.
The specs certainly attest to that statement. Inside the phone you will find a 2.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and a 13MP camera.
HTC is also following the trend for better front-facing cameras by including a 5MP lens at the front – the best so far for a HTC device – which the company states will let users take “beautiful selfies with ease.”
The device, like the Samsung Galaxy S5, is water-resistant. However, for those HTC fans out there expecting another premium metal device, the butterfly 2 may be a bit of a letdown.
The new phone is in fact made out of plastic, which led some commentators to declare that it was a mid-range device. HTC has since stepped in to clear all the confusion up by officially granting the butterfly 2 flagship status.
HTC has once again put the emphasis on audio. The Butterfly 2 comes with the company’s superior BoomSound technology, with HTC claiming that it is 25 percent louder that the HTC One.
The Butterfly 2 will be launching in several Asian markets next month, starting with Japan (where it will undergo a name change, the new title will be the decidedly longer HTC J butterfly HTL23). It will launch in Taiwan on 2 September and then in Honk Kong, India, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore.
Currently it’s looking unlikely that it will make it to the US or UK.
