Gran Turismo 6 released exclusively on PS3 last week. Its launch sales are now out and it’s not looking too good for Sony’s premier racing sim.
Reports show that GT6 sold almost five times less than the last game in the series, Gran Turismo 5, did on launch. It entered the UK’s sales charts at number 8, failing to topple the likes of Call of Duty: Ghosts despite being the only new release of the week.
It’s possible that the quelled launch is due to the recent release of the PS4, a system that’s already prepping its own driving sim ‘ DriveClub. It could also be down to advertising, or the mixed reaction to the last game in the series, which still went on to sell 10 million units globally. Keep in mind that GT5 also launch on Wednesday where this did Friday, giving it two extra days of chat data. Either way it’s not what we expect from what used to be the last word in racing sims.
A potential Gran Turismo 7 would undoubtedly have to kick it up a gear on PS4 if the series is to go on.
