The Google Nexus is the next big rumoured smartphone launch and of the many rumours starting to circulate, the most interesting has to be the idea that the Google Nexus will be a re-worked LG Optimus G.

Recently it was revealed in a leaked screenshot from Carphone Warehouse that the next Google Nexus would, like its predecessor, be made by Samsung.

However, details over the weekend have emerged that it may in fact be a re-working of the LG Optimus G, sporting the next-gen Android OS.

The team over at Androidandme.com are claiming to have reliable information from a source within Google who claims the next Nexus is based on the LG Optimus G.

The source goes on to say that, while the overall design is still in keeping with the current version of the Optimus, it will have rounded corners making it less angular in shape. It’s also believed to be running Android 4.2 instead of 4.1.

The unnamed source also goes on to say, “It has a silver ring like the iPhone 3G around the outer edge of the screen which seemed to be similar to the Galaxy Nexus in size but was much better in brightness.”

It’s thought we can look forward to a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 quad-core processor, backed by 2GB of RAM and an 8-Megapixel rear camera. While this is in keeping with the current tech-spec of the LG Optimus G, it’s thought the Google Nexus version will sport just 16GB of internal storage with no option to upgrade.

What do you think? If we see the Google Nexus 5 launch before Christmas will you be adding it to your wish list, or is the idea of a new Android smartphone already cooling? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
