If you were invited to be one of the first people to get your hands on Google Glass, then in all likelihood you have had to part with around £1000 for the pleasure — but sometimes it pays to wait. According to industry analyst Jason Tsai, when the device finally goes on sale it could retail for as little as £200.
Whilst Google hasn’t given any inclination on what price tag it is going to place on Google Glass when it finally does go mass-market, Tsai has managed to put together the prices of the various components.
The most expensive part of Google Glass is the device’s display, which costs around $30 to $35 to produce — and Google already owns a 6.3 percent stake in the company who makes the display.
If Google Glass does retail for just £200, it would make it a much more desirable product — not that it isn’t already.
Tsai believes that the device could be the start of the wearable gadgets market — a market which could become an $18bn industry within the next five years.
