Gingerbread is no longer the world’s favourite Android treat

Google has been busy releasing some new statistics for their mobile operating system and Gingerbread isn’t looking too sweet anymore.

With Google’s developer conference out of the way, the company are now busy releasing statistics to help boost their deserved egos. The biggest of these announcements is the news that Gingerbread is no longer the king of Android.

With only 5.6 percent of all hardware now running the software, it’s a fall from grace for the ageing operating system. Only a year ago, it still had a formidable share of around 20% of the Android market. The new kings are Jelly Bean and Kitkat, who both share over half of the current market. This is way up from last year, when Kitkat only had a minuscule 1.8% of the share.

Farewell Gingerbread. We knew thee well. Out with the old, in the new. The Android machine marches on.
