It seems that Nintendo won’t be using Android on their new console after all, as a spokesman for the company has just confirmed they have no intentions to make it happen.
Various rumours yesterday suggested that Nintendo was thinking of using Android for its next gaming console, the NX. Today though, it seems the rumours have been squished after the company confirmed it had no plans to adopt the operating system.
Speaking on behalf of the company, a Nintendo spokesperson confirmed “There is no truth to the report saying that we are planning to adopt Android for NX”.
The initial rumour came from a report in Japanese business daily newspaper The Nikkei that cited various high flying sources within the company’s Kyoto headquarters.
While some may be disappointed, this is no doubt a relief for many. Although there are some positives to using Android on a dedicated home console, they don’t outweigh the sheer performance that a purpose-built, optimised operating system would give.
