Ridiculous Fishing is exactly that, ridiculous. I love that fact.

The game is about as simple as it gets, Billie the fisherman throws his fishing line over the side – get it to sink as deep as it can without accidentally snaring any fish – then when ready, pull your line up capturing as many fish as you can. The deeper you go, the more exotic the fish. The lure is controlled by tilting your iPad or iPhone left and right.

Once they get back to the surface, Billie flings all the fish into the air and you need to blow them away with shotguns and other overblown weaponry, by tapping the screen.

Each fish has a dollar value attached to it, which allows you to purchase upgrades (longer fishing lines, new weapons, and new fishing spots).

And thats about as simple as it gets – and also why it works so well. It is a fiendishly addictive game that encourages ‘just one more go’ and is perfect for 1 minute bursts of gameplay, say, on public transport.

Best of all, it’s a full price game, so no pop up ads, no freemium real world cash spends, just a nice clean interface and an engaging, fun experience – with a fair rate of upgrade advancement.

The graphics are brilliant, bright, clean and with a faux-retro style all of it’s own, that’s full of charm.

Perhaps the only flaws I could see are the load times (which also seem a bit inexplicable given the game’s simple rendering) – first boot and changing levels seems to take an age to update, which is a tad annoying.
