Dissapointed by the absence of Samsung’s Galaxy S5 at CES this year? Don’t despair for too long – the company has confirmed that it’s due in the next few months, along with the next Galaxy Gear.

Samsung Mobile’s exectuvie vice president Lee Young Hee confirmed as much to Bloomberg. In an interview with the outlet, Lee suggested that the next handset would be here in March/April time.

“We’ve been announcing our first flagship model in the first half of each year, around March and April, and we are still targeting for release around that time,” Lee stated. “When we release our S5 device, you can also expect a Gear successor with more advanced functions, and the bulky design will also be improved.”

The Galaxy S5 we’d kind of figured, but it’s surprising to hear that the Galaxy Gear 2 will be with us so soon. The company’s smartwatch was famously battered by critics on release, which has evidently spurred the company on to improve.

As for the improvements that the Galaxy S5 will bring, Lee explained: “For the S5, we will go back to the basics. Mostly, it’s about the display and the feel of the cover.”

That’s actually an encouraging sign, given Samsung’s tendency to flood the market with a variety of products. Perhaps just a simple, powerful smartphone is exactly what consumers want.
