Fake reviews hit BBM Android, BlackBerry denies involvement

Did you think that the BBM saga might end when it released on iOS and Android? Think again – fake reviews have put the app in a tough spot.

It’s all happening over on the Google Play Store. Numerous spam messages are popping up under the app’s comments. The messages praise BlackBerry for the app, but are all nearly identical in their messages and terrible grammar. So far the app has scored some 200,000 5-star reviews. Sure, a lot of those will be real people, but it’s an eyebrow-raising figure all the same.

BlackBerry itself has denied any involvement in the issue, stating that the company “does not approve of or condone such activities”.  You might think companies above such actions, but just yesterday we reported on that situation that Samsung Taiwan had put itself  in.

Still, fake reviews aren’t necessary for the app – it saw 10 million downloads in its first 24 hours on the iOS and Android stores.
