European customers will have the opportunity to buy a tweaked version of the new Nokia smartphone, according to Nokia CEO Stephen Elop, when the device becomes available later this year. The Lumia 1020 was launched today in New York with a design focused on impressive photographic and video capabilities, coming equipped with a 41 megapixel camera and a high performance microphone.

A deal between Nokia and Telefonica (which operates as O2 here in the UK) means that Telefonica will be offering a ‘unique’ version of the smartphone in certain European markets, but Nokia and Telefonica have yet to reveal any details of where these markets might be.

So far O2, Phones 4U and 3 have all confirmed that they will be offering the Lumia 1020 in the UK.
