Cortana unveiled for Android and iOS

There’s been rumours about the announcement for some time but today it’s finally official – Microsoft will release Cortana on competing iOS and Android platforms.

Each platform will get a dedicated app that allows you to do almost everything the Windows version offers. Users can track flights,  dictate reminders and access Cortana’s Notebook, which syncs across all your platforms.

Certain OS limitations will mean that Microsoft can’t offer everything that the Windows application offers, as some features require deep OS integration which iOS and Android presumably don’t allow. If you’re hoping to launch applications through voice commands or wake the phone with ‘Hey Cortana’ , these will not carry over from the Windows Phone version.

Not content with just handing over Cortana, the Redmond team has also developed an application for Windows 10 that helps you sync your Android, iOS or Windows handset with your PC. It seems CEO Satya Nadella’s vision of ‘services first’ is still at the forefront of the new Microsoft ethos.
