Digitimes has reported that Apple are struggling to source essential components for the iPhone 5S that could hold up early shipments for the device which is expected to launch in September of this year.

Components in short supply include fingerprint recognition chips and circuitry related to the LCD screen, sources revealed.

Industry insiders have claimed that production of these components has been delayed until the end of this month due to early design issues and will lead to around 3 million iPhone 5S units being delayed until at least October.

Apple experienced delays in the release of the original iPhone 5, admitting in November last year that their Taiwanese hardware supplier was struggling to meet demand.
