In the wake of Blackberry’s financial turmoil, one of the company’s biggest success stories may be looking to go it alone.
A report from the Wall Street Journal suggests that the Blackberry Messenger Service (BBM) may be spun off into a separate company, with executives moving from Blackberry over to the potential BBM inc. While Blackberry was unwilling to comment on the story the reports earlier today that BBM is in the final stages of getting ready to launch on iOS and Android operating systems lend more credibility to these rumours.
Despite the recent struggles Blackberry has faced, BBM remains one of their strongest products with over 60 million users worldwide. In light of the news that Blackberry itself is looking for a buyer however, it’s not clear how spinning of BBM as a separate organisation might effect Blackberry’s chances of finding someone willing to absorb the ailing company.
