BBC iPlayer confirmed for Xbox One

One of the notably absent apps from the Xbox One’s intial list was BBC iPlayer, which was certainly odd given the existence of an app on the Xbox 360 — but don’t panic too much as the BBC has confirmed in a statement to Digital Spy that the organisation is “working to bring BBC iPlayer to Xbox One in the future.”

Whilst there’s no release date in sight, at least you can sleep easy knowing that the BBC hasn’t forgotten about Microsoft’s all-in-one solution, because what’s the point of watching TV in the UK without the BBC?

Of course you will still have access to 4od, Demand 5 and Sky’s Now TV from launch, although we’ve not yet heard anything from Sky regarding its Sky Go app, which is currently available for the Xbox 360 but wasn’t announced alongside the Xbox One. We’ve reached out to Sky and will update as soon as we hear anything.
