Despite a lacklustre critical reception at launch, the Apple iPhone 5 was always going to set sales records. And with over 5 million units sold in first 3 days of launch it’s certainly doing that.

However, Apple is getting set for supply constraints in the weeks ahead.

The iPhone 5 comes in a choice of either White & Silver or Black & Slate and is available from Apple for £529 (inc. VAT) for the 16GB model and £599 (inc. VAT) for the 32GB model and £699 (inc. VAT) for the 64GB model.

Apple has announced that it has sold over 5 million units of the Apple iPhone 5 in just three days of launch. It is also celebrating the fact that over 100 million iOS devices have been updated to iOS 6 since 21st September.

It’s not all great news, however, as the number of units sold has put strain on the supply chain and it’s highly likely that many pre-orders will now not be fulfilled until well into October.

To make matters worse, Apple’s largest contract manufacturer, Foxconn Technology, was forced to close one of its a factory units in the northern Chinese city of Taiyuan over the weekend after a riot broke out among 2,000 employees.

Supply limitations are set to put further strain on Apple as the iPhone 5 is set to launch in another 22 countries on September 28 including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

The message is clear, if you’ve not already got your pre-order in then it’s worth checking with your potential supplier before you order how long you’ll need to wait for.
