Apple could be moving chip production to New York

Start spreading the news. Apple’s leaving today. They want to be a part of it, New York, New York.

Alright, that’s not confirmed, but we couldn’t help ourselves. Apple might be moving its iPhone and iPad chip production to the big, uh, Apple. Times Union reports as much, saying the GlobalFoundries will start making the chip at its Fab 8 facility in the town of Malta. That’s upstate, for those unfamiliar. Samsung’s ‘receipes’ that its used to produce the chips will be incorporated into production.

It seems that this could be a move from Apple to get away from Samsung-dependency. That is if it’s true, of course. Perhaps we’ll hear more news about this along with the announcement of the new iPhones in 2014.
