Apple might bring iPhone exchange service to the UK

Apple runs a pretty neat exchange service in the US. Basically iPhone users can head to an Apple store, hand in their old phone and have its value added as credit to a new phone. It’s only ever been available in America, but rumours are suggesting that Apple might soon bring it to the UK.

Apparently sources at Cupertino have told 9 to 5 Mac that Apple has started to train its UK staff in evaluating an iPhone’s condition for trade-in. All aspects of the phone are looked at, including the display quality, build stability and others, and a value is assigned. In the US, that value will be taken off the price of a new phone. If it’s all true then it will make the UK the first country outside of the States to see the scheme.

This is reportedly all part of a bid from CEO Tim Cook to increase in-store sales. Because, y’know, Apple clearly doesn’t sell enough as it is.

You could fetch around $253 ( £158) for an iPhone 5 at the moment, which you’d obviously then use to upgrade to either the 5c or 5s. Okay so it’s not the most dramatic saving, but what else are you going to do with your old phone? It’s encouraging to see that Apple might bring this over.
