Apple iPhone 6S could be thicker, not thinner

Schematics leaked to the Japanese Endgadget website reveal that the iPhone 6S could be a little thicket than the current version.

We’re used to smartphones getting consistently thinner over time but rarely do we see them actually gain weight. In the case of Apple, this is something that has never happened since the birth of the iPhone device. Each iteration has consistently shaved precious millimetres from the thickness, slowly chipping away at those excess pounds.

Force fed

A set of schematics leaked to Engadget Japan has revealed that Apple could be planning exactly this, with an overall depth of 7.1mm for iPhone 6S. This makes the device 0.2mm thicker than the current iPhone 6, though I’m certain most people will hardly tell the difference. The increase is thought to be due to the inclusion of Force Touch technology, which offers context sensitive features according to pressure sensitivity across the display.

Same old

The schematics also reveal that the device looks almost identical to the current iPhone 6, continuing Apple’s trend of shipping aesthetically similar devices for the S line. The measurement of 67mm along the top perfectly matches that of the current iPhone, meaning screen size should be the same at 4.7-inches.
