The Acer Jade Primo will use the Continuum feature of Windows 10 Mobile to connect itself to a monitor and double up as a full-screen workstation.

Acer has just showcased the first smartphone at IFA to utilise Continuum, a feature in Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 10 Mobile operating system which allows smartphones to dynamically scale the user interface according to the screen they are plugged into. This will essentially allow users to carry out work on a monitor much like they would with a desktop PC, but still enjoy calls and texts through their smartphone device. Acer are dubbing it a ‘Pocket PC’, though nobody is quite yet sure just how much Continuum is capable of.

Acer said in the announcement that it will be able to run all universal Windows 10 applications, plus x86 applications which have been converted to work with ARM chipsets. Interestingly, this could mean that the new Intel Skylake processors may be able to run the full suite of x86 applications just like a traditional desktop.

The Acer Jade Primo will feature some pretty powerful specs. It will come equipped with a Snapdragon 808 processor and a 5.5 inch 1080p AMOLED screen, plus a 21 megapixel rear camera and 8 megapixel front camera. It’s also expected to ship with a mouse and keyboard plus the Continuum dock, which allows connection to external screens.
