Acer Chairman Stan Shih has put rumours of a merger with HTC to rest.
Shih confirmed to Taiwanese media that Acer had no plans to partner up with its peer, despite HTC’s recent financial issues.
HTC reported its first ever loss of $100 million in Q3 of 2013. It followed that up in Q4 with a net profit of $310 million, thanks to the sale of its stake in Beats Audio.
The idea of a merger between the two would likely appeal more to HTC than it would Acer, but it seems to be off the table for now. Will the company manage to get back on track in 2014?
