The ZTE Open budget smartphone will soon be available in the UK through eBay for a rock-bottom £60.
The Open will be the first handset available in the UK to run the Mozilla Firefox OS and is targeted at the low end of the smartphone market with older users and first time owners falling squarely in the target demographic.
The device certainly won’t be winning any fans if hi-tech specs are on your wishlist though. The device offers a 3.5 inch screen, a 3.2 megapixel camera, 512mb of internal storage and a 1200mAh battery and runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM7225A processor.
So far the only handset designs we’ve seen are the less than subtle bright orange skin which does a good point of reminding consumers that this is a handset running the Mozilla OS but might struggle to attract shoppers whose tastes lean towards the understated.
ZTE is already a major handset manufacturer though many companies choose to rebrand devices the company produces. The firm’s decision to sell exclusively via eBay is unusual but it reflects the low cost of the handset; by avoiding selling to retailers or spending money on commercial premises ZTE have been able to keep the Open’s price tag appealing for anyone looking for a stripped down smartphone at an affordable price.
