If you’re planning on getting a brand spanking new Xbox One later this month, then you’ll want to make sure the internet is functioning upon your return home, otherwise you’ll find yourself incapable of doing absolutely anything.

In an interview with Engadget, Microsoft’s senior director of product management Albert Penello confirmed that the company will be pushing out a Day One update, with users able to do literally “nothing” without updating first.

The reason for the need of the update is that the Xbox One currently being manufactured is still running a relatively old version of the operating system, and without the update users could run into a whole host of problems.

It may seem a little extreme to not even be able to play an offline game, but it’s something that Microsoft is enforcing to ensure everyone is bang up to date.
