Apps are the reason why we love our smartphones so much; it’s like having tons of useful little assistants at your beck and call. So why not recruit some new ones to get you through the week! Here’s our top apps for this week!

Letyano (Android and iOS)

Letyano is a rewards application with a unique twist, as it encourages the completion of surveys to earn additional rewards like free drinks and reductions on food bills. If you’re the kind of person who enjoys a good bargain, it’s an app that’s well worth checking out. Recently updated to version 4.0, it comes with an updated user interface and map view, allowing users to see nearby deals according to their location. You can also now favourite places that you like the most, meaning you’ll be notified of any new surveys they release.

Shoptimix (Android and iOS)

An interesting take on the traditional shopping application, Shoptimix lets you pick your groceries while also putting a social spin on things. Virtual isles allow for quick browsing, while categories can help to differentiate things according to your health needs and dietary requirements. You can set reminders to shop… if you’re the type of person who can’t keep on top of your spending habits. The ability to create personalised lists and accounts for multiple users is also a nice addition, meaning you can share things with the whole family!

Yahoo Mail (Android and iOS)

Yahoo Mail has gotten another substantial update that’s worthy of mention. iPhone users will be pleased to know that a Link Preview is finally available for those who want to send a snap of a webpage story, while a share button allows for much easier sending of pictures and videos direct from their respective applications. For those on Android, the update introduces contact syncing, allowing full integration with your phonebook. Yahoo is also introducing an Open Beta, allowing anyone signed up to try the latest preview releases before they are commercially available.

Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) (Android and iOS)

Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) is a potentially life-saving treatment that has been the target of negative perceptions in the recent generation. In a direct attempt to change the stereotype of getting painfully zapped while strapped to a chair, the NHS has released this application to educate people on the benefits of such a therapy. Describing the whole ECT procedure from preparation to recovery, it allows families to make informed decisions on the treatment, so that normal people like us can better understand things.

Android Pay (Android only)

Android Pay has finally arrived on the Google Play store, allowing instant payments with your smartphone at any contactless paypoint in the UK. Using a virtual account number that protects your own during transactions, Android Pay is as secure as it flexible. The app is compatible with any Android device running KitKat 4.4 and above… and has the benefit of running completely silent in the background. In fact, you don’t even need to open the app when making the transaction; simply tap the phone and it’s done.
