If you’re in any doubt that Android 4.4 KitKat is just round the corner, then Google has just gone and updated 16 of its apps on the Play Store — possibly hinting at an imminent release date for the latest version of the Android operating system.
According to a thread over on Reddit, Google has updated several of its core apps over a 72 hour period between October 28 and October 30. Whilst there’s no changelog given with the app updates, it’s likely that the major new feature is Android 4.4 KitKat compatibility.
The apps that have been updated include the all important, Google Play Services, Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Earth, Translate, Chrome, Hangouts, Goggles, Play Magazines, Keep, Wallet, Blogger, Google+, Analytics, Fiber and Snapseed.
Of course the updates could all just be a coincidence, but with the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat event hotly tipped to be any day now, it’s likely that the two events are linked.
