Android porn app is holding your photo to ransom

An un-verified adult video application has reportedly been secretly taking photographs of its users with the intention of blackmail.

Not that we think any of you have it…. But if there’s any users of “Adult Player” out there, we advise you to stop watching certain films within the application immediately as it turns out the developers have some very evil intentions indeed.

It’s emerged that the application actually takes photographs of those using it while in ‘the act’, then displays a ransom message demanding $500. The message remains on the home screen even after rebooting your phone, which will no doubt be pretty embarrassing for those involved. While it’s unlikely that the photographs will get uploaded to the web for everyone to see, this is still an elaborate ruse that will easily catch people out at their most vulnerable.

According to The Register, security firm Zscaler was the first company to spot the malicious intent behind the ransomware application, which paints itself as a standard video player. Fortunately, the app is only available via manual install of the APK file and doesn’t exist within the Google Play store. Those who went to the trouble of installing it were obviously pretty desperate for a dose of mobile adult content, as allowing insecure apps to be downloaded is always a risky affair.
