If you haven’t heard of One Laptop Per Child, you should probably be reading up on it. This is an intriguing outfit dedicated to making a difference in the world and it’s unveiled two new tablets at CES this week.
The company has partenered with Vivitar to produce the XO-2 and XO-10. The former is a seven-inch device while the latter comes in at 10.1-inches. Despite the differing size, both have a resolution of 1200 x 600.
One Laptop Per Child has made a tablet with Vivitar before, but has upped its specs for these new releases. Both have a quad-core processor clocked at 1GB of RAM. Then there’s 8GB of storage and built-in Bluetooth and GPS. Both are running a modded version of Android KitKat, which is one of the few devices announced at the show to be using the latest OS. They’re pre-loaded with 100 apps running in English and Spanish.
The XO-2 goes for $149 and nets you seven hours of battery, while the XO-10 offers 12 hours of battery at $199. They’re definitely worth checking out for the sake of the cause if nothing else.
