8pen app review

Not so much an app as a new way of interacting with your phone, 8pen is a bold new alternative to virtual keyboards. The developer makes the case that today’s touch-typing solutions are awkward and unnatural (no arguments here), and that 8pen is the result of starting completely from scratch.

Typing is a matter of sweeping from a central position across four dividers and back again in a series of flowing circular movements. That’s fine in theory, but in practice it feels like learning a new language. Whether it’s superior or not, 8pen’s learning curve is a little too steep.
