While Amazon MP3 provides the closest thing to an iTunes for Android, the platform’s uniquely open nature means it can host a fair few worthy alternatives too. 7digital is just such a service, offering high quality MP3s with no DRM restrictions.

You really need a pre-existing 7digital account to get the most out of this app, as it automatically pulls in a list of all the music you’ve purchased through the site. It’s then an easy matter to download and listen to them (wi-fi connection recommended). You can also purchase tracks directly, although this is just a link to a mobile site beta.

Skype app review

At long last, the undisputed king of Voice over IP (VoIP) has arrived on Android. We’re not sure why it’s taken so long, and handset compatibility still isn’t stellar (it works on our Milestone but not our Galaxy S) but it’s here and it’s as polished a communication tool as ever.
