Microsoft’s long awaited update to Windows 8 is set to be released to everyone on October 18. Windows 8.1 was released as a beta version just last month and has already garnered positive reaction from around the tech community.

The operating system hopes to address many of the concerns that people had with the original Windows 8 operating system, with the return of the start button and boot to desktop both being included in the update.

Those of you wanting to get your hands on the Windows 8.1 update will be able to download it from October 17, although Microsoft has also promised a boxed version for October 18.

The update is expected to be included out of the box in many upcoming PCs, with the Release to Manufacturing rumoured to be taking place within the coming weeks.
