Windows 8 is set to receive its first major update soon in the form of Windows 8.1. The update will of course be free for those already using the computer OS, but those upgrading from an older model or moving from the standard version to its Pro release will have a price to pay.

You can expect to lay down £75 for the standard update, or £125 to get the Pro version. If you already have the standard version of Windows 8 but fancy moving to Pro with this update then it’ll see you back £65. There’s time to save though; Windows 8.1 isn’t launching until midday on October 17th, and will be integrated into all newly purchased Windows computers and laptops from October 18th.

8.1 is seen as something of a reform for Windows 8, addressing some of the more controversial aspects of the current version. The Start menu, for example, will find its way back to the bottom-left of the desktop, and the update gives you the option to get rid of the front page and boot straight to the desktop. These updates might sound a little superficial, but they’ve been they’ve been highly sort after by some users.
