Vodafone customers can access WiFi on the London Underground at no extra cost once the free service is switched off.

From today, eligible customers can use My Vodafone to access the WiFi network on the London Underground and this would be available at no extra cost.

This means after January, when the free WiFi on the Underground provided as part of the Olympics ends this month, Vodafone customers will still be able to use the service at no extra cost, provided they are eligible.

Eligible customers were Pay As You Go customers with internet as part of their price plan. Business and pay monthly customers could access WiFi on the Underground at no extra charge until 30 November this year, the company said.

My Vodafone was the company’s account section and was free of charge, the company said.

The network was provided by Virgin Media, Vodafone said, and would allow Internet access in at least 92 Tube stations.

Passengers could connect in ticket halls, on escalators, on platforms and on trains resting at platforms, but the WiFi would not work in the tunnels, Vodafone said.

Vodafone joins Everything Everywhere   and Virgin Media in offering WiFi access to customers on the Underground (Virgin Media broadband and pay monthly mobile customers are eligible for this).   If you’re not a customer of one of these companies, you can purchase WiFi passes from Virgin Media, Transport for London said.
