One of the largest producers of smartphones, Vivo is from the same family as Oppo, Realme and OnePlus. All owned by BKK Electronics. Vivo has a massive catalogue aimed for people who want to buy smartphones within a budget. Even producing more high-end models to cater to a more premium segment. Often launching phones that are varied a little in price and specs, such as the Vivo Y17 and the Vivo Y19. These phones have a price difference of about 50 pounds. The specs vary some more though.
Both released in 2019, months apart the Y17 and Y19 are budget-friendly phones that are more easily accessible to a wider range of people. These smartphones use the Google Andoird platform as their base layer OS, coming with Android 9 Pie installed. The skin layer on top is their own user interface known as Funtouch, the Y17 has Funtouch 9 on it and the Y19 has Funtouch 9.2.
The internal components are similar only to a degree in the variants available locally, they both have 128GB of storage and 4GB of RAM for tasking. The processors are different, with the Y19 housing a Mediatek MT6768 Helio P65 and the Y17 coming with the Mediatek MT6765 Helio P35. Making the Y19 a tad faster, even though both the processors are in a similar power range.
The displays on these smartphones are varied as well, the Y17 is a little smaller in size with a screen size at 6.35 inches and the Y19 has a screen of 6.53 inches. The latter one is also has a higher number of pixels, with a resolution of 1080 x 2340pixels versus a resolution of 720 x 1544pixels. Even in this segment, the Y19 comes out on top.
Interestingly the camera modules are better on the Y17, by a slight margin. With a main camera system that is a triple-lens setup including a main 13 MP f/2.2 lens. A secondary for ultrawide shots at 8 MP f/2.2 and a depth sensor of 2MP f/2.4. The selfie camera being a 20 MP f/2.0. On the Y19 the main camera system is also a triple-lens setup with the main lens being a 16 MP f/1.8, a secondary ultrawide lens at 8MP f/2.2 and the third is a depth sensor same as the Y17; 2MP f/2.4. The selfie camera on the Y19 has a 16 MP f/2.0 lens, markedly less than the Y17.
The camera app has similar functionality in both and also the video recording is 1080p at 30fps. The Y17 and Y19 both have the same sensors and connectivity options, also their batteries are the same 5000mAh cells based on the Li-Polymer technology. These two smartphones are very close even the difference in price is so, with the Y17 costing £250 and the Y19 coming for £200. Given the Y19 has a better processor, screen and only lacks on the main camera by a few MPs, it comes in ahead of the Y17. A better deal, granting one a good phone within a decent budget.
