Prepare to get a whole lot of DMs from random people on Twitter, as the company has announced changes to the way DMs work. Previously, you were required to both follow each other before you could start direct messaging people, but under the new plans anyone who follows you can now DM you — you don’t have to follow them back.
Fortunately it doesn’t seem like the setting has been automatically turned on, requiring users to activate it automatically. This could be advantageous in a way when a company wants to get in contact with you but you don’t necessarily follow the company you’re complaining about, or it doesn’t follow you.
If you don’t see the setting straight away, then don’t fear — the feature is currently rolling out and will be with you shortly.
