The King of Fighters-i 002 game review

So far, Street Fighter IV’s reign as the best fighting game on iPhone has been pretty much uncontested. With the recently released Volt disappointing somewhat due to a laggy online component (and not much else to justify a purchase on top), Capcom has opened the door for a new contender to step up and steal the crown.

The King of Fighters – itself a mobile version of SNK’s classic console fighting series – almost manages to usurp Ken, Ryu, et al. thanks to its excellent adaptation of the touchscreen for fighting, along with some fantastic, console-quality 2D graphics.

Special move shortcuts will no doubt rankle veterans of the series, and the lack of any online play is very disappointing (although, given SFIV Volt’s issues, probably not surprising). Still, in terms of pure single-player action, The King of Fighters rules.
