Electric vehicles manufacturer Tesla is introducing a range of new features for its Model S cars as part of a new update to its OS.
Most notable among all the upgrades is the ability to start the Tesla Model S using just your iPhone.
Although the working details behind the new feature have not yet been revealed, it is though that it will involve Touch ID and coincide with the release of iOS 8 next month.
A leaked screenshot of the Version 6 update (see below) also gives some additional info on what we can expect.
The update is thought to be in its final beta stage and being finalised for a full rollout soon.
Other new features include traffic-based navigation, maps and navigation improvements, a calendar, new power management options and a custom car name.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk was spotted at Apple last year, fuelling speculation that the Cupertino-based firm was planning a buyout of Tesla. The rumours were quickly shot down by both companies.
It is now thought that Musk’s close relationship with Apple was in order to introduce better integration with the tech giant’s devices.
Aside form iOS, Tesla has also been working on integrating its cars’ OS with Android too. Recently, the manufacturer launched the Tesla Command app to work with Android Wear devices to unlock selected Tesla vehicles remotely.
