John Legere has done it again. The T-Mobile CEO has never exactly been afraid to speak his mind, and as such has offered up some very frank views on what has been dubbed ‘bendgate’.
During an on-stage interview at the GeekWire Summit 2014 tech conference, one of Legere’s interviewers brought up that Legere had an iPhone 6 Plus. He noted that the device was perfectly straight, obviously touching on something of a sore spot for Legere.
Legere said, “That is such horsesh*t. I mean, come on, what the f*** did you need to see?
“The video of the guy that’s doing this [pretending to bend his device] …and if you could have seen his face, he probably would have been purple. The veins were coming out of his fingers and the thing moves a little bit? Are you sh*tting me?
“I mean, when was the last time you took any other… this is an amazing supercomputer in your hand. What the f*ck are you putting it in your pants and sitting on it for?”
He draws an exasperated comparison to how your laptop, or any luxury electronic device, would break when abused. His conclusion? “This thing doesn’t f*cking bend.”
He certainly has a point. Of the 10 million-plus iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus devices sold there have only been nine genuine bend-related complaints registered with Apple. Unfortunately, internet coverage and reaction on social media has lead to a spate of intentional bendings, giving rise to the moniker ‘bendgate’.
If you wanted to know what one of the wealthiest men in tech has to say about it, then wonder no longer. He also states that the controversy has seen absolutely no slowdown in demand for Apple’s latest device.
