But Apple users are more likely to have their phone stolen

Android users are more likely to make insurance claims for accidental damage compared to iPhones.

According to the data Android users registered a claim rate of 16 per cent, compared to 10 per cent of Apple users.

Data analysed over an 18-month period up to June 2020 by Insurance2go also revealed that Apple handsets are more likely to be lost or stolen.

This is reflected in claims for theft, with Apple hitting 12 per cent compared to four per cent.

And overall Apple owners are more likely to take out an insurance policy, with 68 per cent of respondents with an insurance policy owning an iPhone.

Regional differences

London is the most likely city to claim for damaged iPhones, with 13.6 per cent, followed by Portsmouth (12.4pc) and Leeds (12.1pc).

Whereas Peterborough is the hotspot for Android claims on 20.3 per cent, closely followed by London (20.3pc) and Brighton (18.3pc).

Insurance2go head of marketing and digital Richard Gray said: “We’re sure these findings will be hard to hear for Android fans, but the numbers certainly point towards the Android camp being the clumsiest.

“With that said, when it comes to loss, theft and breakdown, Apple handsets are the worst offenders, so iPhone users don’t have too many bragging rights.”
