There’s no shortage of Walkman handsets from Sony Ericsson, but this has to be the top of the league.
The W995 isn’t just about music (Sony Ericsson has probably gone about as far as they can with music, for now), but has a heavy emphasis on imaging and video. The 8-megapixel camera brings it up to the level of the C905, but it also has optimised video playback using the new Media Go application that transfers, plays and organises your video media in the same was you would already manage music.
You can now enjoy news, TV shows or films in premium video quality, storing the media on your supplied 8GB memory card (the phone will however happily take current 16GB cards and 32GB cards in the future), streaming over HSDPA or using Wi-Fi.
What’s more, the W995 has GPS (and a 3-month trial of Wayfinder 8, as well as Google Maps) and a huge 2.6-inch display, built-in stand, plus loud stereo speakers. Premium headphones (HPM-77) will be supplied with support for Clear Stereo and Clear Bass, although Sony Ericsson may ship the phone with noise cancelling headphones in some markets when the phone goes on sale in the second quarter of 2009.
The phone is Quad-Band GSM and Dual-Band 3G/UMTS with HSDPA support. It will be available in three colours; Progressive Black, Cosmic Silver and Energetic Red.
