Sony Ericsson has finally confirmed the Xperia Play officially exists, after showing a teaser ad during the Super Bowl.
The company is launching a range of new devices ahead of Mobile World Congress, on February 13th, but this is without a doubt the phone everyone is most keen to get a look at.
The PlayStation Certified phone will ship in Q2 and is already appearing on most network operator roadmaps, suggesting this phone is going to be very mainstream. So far O2 and Vodafone have confirmed and we’ve been told that Three is also signed up, leaving just Orange and T-Mobile and the virtual operators like Virgin and Tesco.
Our guess is that everyone will be taking this phone.
Update, February 8th: We’ve just had a phone call from the Orange press office to confirm that Orange will also be releasing the Xperia Play, as well as T-Mobile. So that just leaves the virtuals!
We’ll be hands-on with the phone after the announcement next week to find out if the handset looks like living up to the hype and great expectations.
