Ahead of the MTV Europe Music Awards, Sony Ericsson has announced a brand new Walkman that will be released at the start of 2009.

The W705 is a sliding handset that measures 95×47.5×14.3mm and weighs in at 98g. It will be available in luxury silver or passionate red.

Sporting a 2.4-inch QVGA (240×320 pixel) display, the 3G Walkman includes a 3.2-megapixel camera and a camera flash, as well as Wi-Fi to allow another way of uploading and downloading content (including YouTube). The phone is DNLA certified, allowing connection to other similarly certified devices.

As with other recent handsets from Sony Ericsson, the W705 also has an accelerometer that auto-rotates the screen and offers additional music control with the Walkman player, such as shaking the phone to change track. The player also supports SensMe tagging and incorporates ‘Clear Stereo’ and ‘Clear Bass’ as used in the W980, which recently won the “Best Audio Experience” award in a trial conducted by TESTfactory in Germany.

The phone will ship with a 4GB Memory Stick Micro (M2) memory card, offering capacity of up to 3,900 tracks.
