If you always wanted a larger handset but could not fork out the cash for a bigger device, then Sony might just have unveiled the smartphone for you.
The newly announced Xperia T3 looks a lot like Sony’s flagship Z2 model, equipped with the same rigid design and steel frame. With a 5.3 inch screen and at 7mm thin, however, it is a slightly larger and decidedly slimmer smartphone than its pricier sibling.
Inside the T3 you can expect to find a a 1.4GHz quad-core processor, and Android 4.4 KitKat, while the back of the phone plays host to an 8-megapixel camera. The display has a 1,280×720 pixel resolution, which is slightly lower than the screen on high-end devices such as the Z2.
Another sacrifice that comes with the rumoured price cut (no confirmation of price from Sony yet), is no water resistance – a feature found on the Xperia Z range and also the Samsung Galaxy S5.
Sony has stated that the new device will launch at the end of July, but gave no specific country launch dates.
UPDATE: Sony has revealed a little more information regarding the Xperia T3’s launch in the UK.
The handset will be exclusively available from Carphone Warehouse, who is offering it for free on 24-month contracts at £21 per month and upward. It will be hitting shelves on July 24th.
What’s more, if you pre-order Carphone Warehouse will throw in a Sony Smartband for free!
