The iPhone isn’t short of good games like Angry Birds, Plants vs Zombies and Cut the Rope. But have you ever wished you could play classic Nintendo games like Super Mario or Pokemon on the device?
That could soon be a reality thanks to Hyperkin, who are producing a device that turns your iPhone 6 Plus into a classic Gameboy. Yes, you read that correctly.
The Smart Boy is the gaming hardware maker’s latest crazy project. It resembles the bottom half of the original Game Boy and uses the top half of the iPhone 6 Plus as a screen.
The premise is simple. Just slot your old Game Boy or Game Boy Color cartridges into the back of the device and your modern smartphone is transformed into a piece of retro gaming nostalgia.
It all began as a joke on Reddit, but Hyperkin announced last week that it was going to turn the Smart Boy into an actual product. It’s still currently in production and the image above is only a concept.
Hyperkin has been responsible for other retro gaming products like a portable Super Nintendo and the Retron 5; a device that combines the SNES, NES, Game Boy Advance and Sega Genesis into one.
Nintendo on your iPhone
Nintendo recently announced that it’s getting into smartphone gaming, so it’ll be interesting to see how they react to the Smart Boy.
