Latest phone from Dutch social enterprise with modular parts and recycled materials

Sky Mobile is now offering the Fairphone 3+, the latest modular smartphone from the Dutch social enterprise.

Fairphone’s aim is to develop and manufacture smartphones with a minimal environmental impact.

As part of this aim, the phone is designed with modular parts so that users can repair it themselves with spare parts. Additionally, it is made from 40 per cent recycled plastic in its housing and modules.

Fairphone also is pledging to phase out conflict-free minerals in its phones, as well as looking to pay the workers at every stage of its supply chain a living wage.

The Fairphone 3+ runs Android 10 on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 chipset with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage, expandable via microSD.

It has a 3,040mAh removable battery, and a 5.65-inch full HD+ screen, with a 48MP rear camera and a 16MP selfie camera.

Other features include a fingerprint sensor, 3.5mm headphone jack, and NFC capability for card payments.

This tie-up follows on from Sky being the first UK provider to range the Fairphone 3 last year.

Sky is offering the device from £26 per month with no upfront cost for 2GB of monthly data and unlimited calls and texts, as well as a free House of Marley Chant Mini portable Bluetooth speaker, normally worth £45.

The phone is also available from The Phone Co-op, and direct from Fairphone’s website. Vodafone also began offering the Fairphone 3 last year.
