The service also works in conjunction with the desktop iGoogle service so you can keep track even when you’re at your PC, and everything works on a strict opt-in basis so you won’t be sending your location to anyone that you don’t want to find you.

The privacy options allow you to restrict certain friends or everyone, for when you may not want people to know exactly where you are. Of course, it may look rather suspicious if you suddenly disappear from the map completely!

Once you’ve added friends who don’t mind being tracked, you can also find out where they are using the search facility.

The Google Latitude application is currently available for the following devices:

  • Most colour BlackBerry models
  • Most Windows Mobile 5, 6 and 6.1 models
  • Most Nokia Series 60 models


In the future, it will also become available for:

  • Apple iPhone
  • Google Android (including T-Mobile G1)
  • JAVA (including Sony Ericsson)
