Seagate has today announced the launch of the battery powered, wireless, GoFlex Satellite portable hard drive. With 500GB of storage, it’s designed to add storage of pictures, music and video for the Apple iPad and other tablets and smartphones.
With the internal battery capable of powering the wireless hard drive for up to five hours (with usage) and 25 hours on standby, users can connect to the GoFlex Satellite using an ordinary web browser, or a dedicated GoFlex Media app available on the Apple App Store. An Android app is expected by summer.
The portable hard drive also works with PC and Mac Media Sync software, automatically placing only files that are compatible with iOS (and later Android) devices. It includes a USB 3.0 port to also work over a wired connection, and comes with a USB 3.0 cable and both a mains and in-car charger.
The GoFlex Satellite is available now in the US for $199.99 and will be available in the UK in the summer for a price expected to be around £160.
