Samsung’s Galaxy S5 finally hit stores last week and, according to two major UK smartphone retailers, the new flagship doubled the sales of its predecessor the Galaxy S4.
Both Phones 4u and Carphone Warehouse reported outstanding sales, with Phones 4u announcing twice as many Galaxy S5s flying off shelves compared with last year’s Galaxy S4. Meanwhile, Carphone Warehouse sales were up 150%.
Phones 4u also revealed that five times as many interested punters registered their details, to receive an alert when the Samsung Galaxy S5 became available to pre-order.
Analysts have noted that the positive returns indicate that Samsung’s flagship is still very much stiff competition for the likes of its rivals, such as Apple’s iPhone and Sony’s Xperia Z2. Therefore, It’ll be interesting to see who the sales champion is come summer, when the dust has settled.
