Samsung and Amazon join forces to bring a Kindle app to Galaxy devices

Amazon is the world’s most popular eReader manufacturer and Samsung is the world’s most popular smartphone manufacturer – a collaboration would make perfect sense for both parties. That’s just what’s happened, with the announcement that Kindle will be Samsung’s official ‘eBook provider’.

The eReader market is growing at a rate even greater than that of tablets, so rather than try to compete with the already well-established giants of the industry, Samsung has instead decided to team up with Amazon to produce a Kindle app for all Galaxy devices – that means both tablets and smartphones. It will be available on all devices running Android 4.0 and upwards, starting with the Galaxy S5, and hits 90 countries later this month.

A service called Samsung Book deals will also be launching soon, designed to bring free titles to loyal app users. Those who are referred to it and then use it will be treated with up to 12 free books per year from a selection curated by Amazon.

Whispersync will also be available for the device, which ensures that your progress through your various books is synced across all of your various Kindle-enabled devices. Pricing is yet to be confirmed – presumably eBooks will cost the same, but there’s no word as to whether or not the app itself will be gratis.
