Take Two – the publisher whose subsidiary  Rockstar Games produces the long-running GTA franchise – outlined its fourth quarter financial results yesterday and, as expected, the blockbuster numbers ($2.3 billion in revenue) were fuelled by strong sales of GTA V (the title has sold 33 million to retailers).

Amidst the talk of figures, Take Two also mentioned some big news  regarding a new Rockstar game, which the publisher states will be due out this financial year (so before the end of March 2015).

Naturally, the firm was tight-lipped about an exact title or whether the game would be debuted at the upcoming E3 games expo next month.

Consequently, online speculation is currently rife – with commentators already debating the specifics of the new title.

So what exactly are pundits predicting?

Currently the forerunners include Red Dead Redemption 2 (the sequel to the 2010 western hit, which sold 12 mn copies), Agent (an original Rockstar title first announced by Sony in 2009, which takes its inspiration from 70s espionage thrillers like The Parallax View) and Bully 2 (another sequel, this time to the cult title; Bully, surrounding the exploits of a student a a New England boarding school).

Before we get too excited, it is worth mentioning that Rockstar could also forego those ideas altogether in favour of porting one of its console games to the PC.

Online anticipation for a PC port of GTA V has reached fever pitch – most recently evidenced by a petition to get the title on to the platform that has so far been signed by over 700,000 people.

If you thought that a GTA V port was taking too long, you’ll be gobsmacked to hear that rumours of a PC version of Red Dead Redemption have been circulating since its release four years ago. These were recently ignited by the listing of the Western epic on a Microsoft compatibility site.

So will it be a case of Rockstar appeasing frustrated PC gamers, releasing a blockbuster sequel to one of its cult titles or going for something new altogether? What would you like to see the developer deliver? Let us know in the comments section below.
