A resolution by Blackberry shareholders passed on July 9th has officially changed the name of the company to Blackberry.

After first announcing their plans to do away with the Research In Motion brand in January during the launch of their new Z10 handset and Blackberry 10 operating system the company formally changed their name last week.

What Mobile spoke to a representative from the Canadian company who told us that they had decided to change their branding “to coincide with the launch of [our] new mobile computing platform, BlackBerry 10. The move consolidates the company’s brand into a single cohesive global presence.”

The move marks another change in strategy for Blackberry who have struggled financially in recent years. A senior business analyst recently suggested that the manufacturer should leave the handset market if they are to survive.
