Rakuten Viber Doubling Group Call Max Participants in the wake of Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Rakuten Viber, one of the world’s leading messaging apps, today announced that it is doubling the number of people who can participate in its group calls features to up to 10 people at once – starting today. The company’s decision to increase development resources comes in light of the coronavirus circumstances and the increasing need for families, work colleagues and schools to stay connected.

All of Viber’s one-to-one and group chats on Viber are end-to-end encrypted, and so are all your calls, messages, photos, and shared documents. Nothing users share is ever stored on Viber’s servers once delivered. And when messages are sent, thanks to end-to-end encryption, no 3rd-party (including Viber) has the keys required to decrypt the messages other than the sender and the receiver(s).

“We’re committed to finding more ways for people to connect in groups during this challenging time without having to be physically in the same place. With more people working remotely, in response to the spread of the coronavirus, we want to do our part in order to ensure that people have a safe and secure environment to stay connected with loved ones and to be able to continue to do their jobs from wherever they are,” said Ofir Eyal, Chief Operating Officer at Rakuten Viber.
